Music in Museums, an International Conference

20 – 22 February 2014. Chiesa S. Jacopo in Campo Corbolini, via Faenza 43, Firenze

This year the Marist-LdM MA Museum Studies program decided to give their annual conference a slightly more musical touch. The result: a wide variety of topics presented by international speakers within 4 main categories:

• The Role of Music in Collections and Museums—Historical and Contemporary Considerations
• Displaying Music in the Museum Today
• Musical Events – Public Programming in Museums
• Musical Laboratories and Educational Programming

Besides the various seminars, the program also features several musical interventions. On Thursday for example the musical group ‘Il Rossignolo’ will perform various pieces related to the first, historical part of the conference. On Friday evening an experiential performance by composer Antonio Artese will take place. Saturday a demonstration of music laboratory technique by violinist Martin Schaefer will be part of the section on educational programming.

The conference is open to the public, there is no fee and no registration is required.
