May 9: Giorgio Vasari and the Birth of the Museum @ Uffizi Library
Two books, two languages, one subject: in collaboration with the Polo Museale Fiorentino, our Marist-LdM MA in Museum Studies presents the proceedings of their 2011 conference
The year 2011 marked the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giorgio Vasari, which our Marist-LdM MA in Museum Studies celebrated with an international conference on the theme of “Giorgio and the Birth of the Museum”.
The Italian and English language proceedings, recently published by Edifir and Ashgate presses, provide the first focused study of Vasari’s original contributions to museum formation by means of a cross-disciplinary overview of Vasari’s approaches to collecting and display, and his impact and legacy with respect to the museum institution.
On May 9, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Biblioteca degli Uffizi in Florence, these volumes will be presented by Cristina Acidini, Alessandro Nova, and Antonio Godoli, with some of the authors present.
