Your Library in Florence
Geared by a team of experienced librarians, LdM Library is designed to enable students to complete their courses at LdM successfully. Its holdings have been built up to cater directly to the needs of students and the subjects of courses, offering a continuously growing collection of forward-looking resources, carefully developed in collaboration with the faculty.The collection includes both traditional – books, periodicals and newspapers – and digital resources, including over six thousands books, nearly 1500 DVD. All the four Schools and over thirty Departments existing at LdM Florence are represented in the Library.Via the catalogue, the Library provides access to resources located in the Main Building (Via dell’Alloro, 13) as well as other smaller collections of books located in the buildings where the corresponding subjects are taught. Most of the resources are in English, even if a large amount of Italian-language material is also available.For their work and research, in the Main Building students will find a Main Reading Room a Screening Room and other dedicated spaces. Users can access the LdM network with their personal laptops via LAN and WiFi connections. Several computer stations are available to all students in the next room, accessible from Via del Giglio 4.Our library holdings are supplemented by a number of sizeable libraries in Florence which are available to all students. Main Library Building Hours
The Main Library is located in Via dell’Alloro 13, and is open 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Students will be informed about special opening hours during the exam weeks.
Please note that opening hours are reduced during the month of August.
Departmental library holdings in some cases including current periodicals, are registered in the main online catalogue. Hours vary in accordance with the opening hours of each department building. Materials are generally for on-site use only but check with the department. Note that books may be available in more than one location, so check the “availability” note in the online catalogue for the exact address

Borrowing Services and Policies
All students may read books in the library during the library opening hours. Most of the LdM holdings are not on open shelving. Borrowing privileges are also available except for references books, DVDs, and some other materials.
Loan Conditions and Periods
Students are permitted to borrow a maximum of three books either for three days or overnight, depending on the loan status of individual books. No borrowing is allowed during the mid-term week or the final exam week.
To obtain borrowing privileges students must give the library a refundable deposit of 20 Euro in cash. This will be given back to you during the last week of the semester only. This is not a fee but a deposit that will be fully refunded except in the event of delayed return or damages.
Books borrowed for three days must be returned by 6:00 PM on the third day (books borrowed on Monday are due back on Thursday by 6 PM, and so on).
Books borrowed overnight are issued at 6 PM and must be returned by 6 PM on the following day.
Books with “overnight” status borrowed on Fridays are due back on the following Monday by 6 PM.
Students may make photocopies of books using the copy machine in the library for a cost of 5 cents per page. It is essential that you follow the copyright laws (maximum of 15% of a book).
Please note that the demands on the copy machine can be heavy during the run-up to the final exam period: please arrange to make your copies well in advance!
The following penalties are in force:
for books borrowed overnight a penalty of 2 Euro per hour will be deducted from the deposit for books returned late. Only library opening hours are calculated for this fine.
For books borrowed for up to three days a penalty of 4 Euro per day will be deducted from the deposit.
For books taken out the building without permission there is a fine of 4 Euro per day.
The entire deposit will be retained in cases of loss or damage to library materials.
The Library staff reserves the right to revoke borrowing privileges as it deems appropriate (e.g. excessive number of fines).
In the Main Library Building (Via dell’Alloro 13) audible cell phone/pager ringers should be off and conversation should be limited. Smoking is not permitted in the Library. For all other issues please refer to the Rules of Conduct.

• Don’t loan your ID or checked-out library books to others
• Report a lost ID and damaged or lost materials to the Library as soon as possible.
• Please be respectful of the needs of other users, help keep materials in good condition and return materials promptly. If you are unable in respecting the deadline please inform us or be aware we will contact you.
