Ritual, Prayer, and Sacred Space in Museums

RITUAL, PRAYER, AND SACRED SPACE IN MUSEUMS

Many objects and ritual spaces within museums continue to live and perform their sacred duties even though they might be on display for a general and often non-religious public.

In this workshop by means of a series of case studies we plan to address a very specific kind of religious attention — that of ritual and prayer — which some objects enjoy either because of institutional encouragement or because visitors have insisted upon creating or maintaining spiritual connections to the objects.
