Churches as living museums – abstract

Churches as living museums

Ars et Fides make the stones speak

Dr. Niccolò Torrini, Responsible for Ars et Fides, Florence Chapter

In this presentation, I will consider a series of related themes that impact our work at Ars et Fides.

These themes include sacred art in religious structures that serve as a Biblia pauperum, the difficulty of understanding the messages of medieval sacred art in the modern world, the importance of context in understanding such works of art, the daily efforts of Ars et Fides in all of Europe to give the ‘word’ back to such works of art, the interactions with and between different cultures regarding the religious messages of works of art in churches, and the fascination that younger generations express for the work of Ars et Fides.
