Alessandro Cecchi – Abstract

Baroque Splendors of the Pitti Granducal Palace and the Boboli Gardens During the Reign of
Cosimo II

My contribution traces the combined history of Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens, often today the object of separate studies, but which were born and developed together as part of the same medicean commission during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I will focus on the figure of Cosimo II, who died prematurely in 1621, as it was he who laid the foundations for the Baroque splendor that united the palace and the garden.
