Venice Biennale: Studio Art and Art History

June 3 – July 2, 2017

The “Venice Biennale: Studio Art and Art History Program” is a 4-week combined studio art/art history program offered jointly by Marist College and the lstituto Lorenzo de’ Medici. The program gives students a unique opportunity to explore and immerse themselves in the world’s oldest and most prestigious art exposition, drawing inspiration from the city of Venice and works of global contemporary artists featured at Biennale sites.

The Venice Biennale is one of the most prestigious art expositions and cultural institutions in the world. Since its foundation in 1895, it has been in the avant-garde, promoting new artistic trends and organizing international events in the contemporary arts in accordance with a multi-disciplinary model which characterizes its unique nature.

Immersed in the unique culture of Venice and surrounded by contemporary art from around the world, students of the “Studio Art and Art History Program” earn six credits as they take inspiration from the Biennale to produce a body of work for an ancillary exhibition. Program Highlights:
• Explore contemporary art and culture through a combination of onsite lectures, studio art workshops and critiques
• Develop a body of studio work In an assigned a studio space
• Enjoy access to museums such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Galleries dell’Accademia, Scuola San Rocco, Punta    della Dogana, and free admission to the Biennale festival
• Explore the city of Venice as well as its outlying islands and other significant sites in the Veneto region
