JEWELRY ART AND DESIGN

The LdM School of Design offers an artistic and cultural reference point for students, as Florence has a long-standing tradition in jewelry making.

Students will start with the history of jewelry design, and pair with basic jewelry techniques such as: sawing, filing, soldering, bending, forging, engraving and polishing. Students learn how to drill, file, weld and shape materials, cut stones and enjoy the satisfaction of polishing and setting precious and semi-precious stones in their own collection.

Students learn the chemical make-up of different elements and become familiar with lab instruments and machines through immediate hands-on application of basic techniques. LdM encourages experimentation: each project is designed to stimulate individual learning and skills development. Here, at LdM, students learn to channel their creative inspiration through the manual skills acquired: these are the qualities of a jewelry designer.
